Motivation

  Every individual has a different view of how they perceive their specific job, field and career choice. Some individuals may have the same exact job but may have a different approach to that job depending on their personality and what they want to achieve from this job. If a employee enjoys their job then this will greatly increase the employee's productivity in their performance. In the ancient story, the man who proudly acknowledged that he is helping to build a cathedral has a motive for his job; he understands the importance his job has and will do anything to make it a reality.
  I believe the Law of Effect which states that behavior followed by a pleasant consequence is likely to be repeated; behavior followed by an unpleasant consequence is unlikely to be repeated is important for the behavior of an employee. If employees in a corporation are given recognition or their hard work in either a physical manner (bonus money, gift, etc) or in a psychological manner (employee of the month, recognition by their peers, etc) will lead to a repetition of this behavior because the employee would want to continue doing this. If an employee does not get recognition or experience an unpleasant consequence based on a certain behavior then that said behavior will change. Employee's who constantly do their job in the correct manner and do not receive recognition of any kind may feel like they are wasting their time and will decrease their productivity. I believe employers should motivate their employees to increase their level of joy in the work place by increasing different incentives that would allow the employee to increase their level of productivity; happier employees will lead to a happier employer.

  1. I agree with you. The level of motivation is difference between employees who enjoy the job and those who do not. Your point is very good that employer should give recognition to employees who have good performance. Employer's recognition does not have to be financial reward. Just show to employees that their hard work is "seen" means alot to them.

  2. While I agree that every employee has a different outlook on the job, I believe that this outlook is a direct result of the environment the employee is put in. By giving the employees an impression that their job is insignificant or that they are unimportant will likely result in poor performance and unmotivated work activity. When they are treated as a valued worker, employees are motivated to do well and influence others to do well too. I also believe in the Law of Effect. The actions of one, especially that of a supervisor position will rub off on the surrounding people. A positive influence will go a distance in a work environment.

  3. It's safe to say that receiving something for a job well done is the best way to motivate someone into doing work. There are a lot of people that don't have goals at work, if you give them an incentive for the job they're doing they are more than likely to do it better.
